Hi everyone,
I was wondering what the best way to start a career in HVAC/R is? I currently manage my parents grocery store. I'm almost graduated from the HVAC course here at ashworth. The reason why I took this course was to fix the variety of equipment at my families store. The repair man that was repairing our equipment up and ended his private business and took a job as an in house repair man for a beer company. It's been hard to find good honest HVAC guys to repair our equipment. I have really understood the course and am going to buy my own tools so I can start the repairs myself.
I have flirted with idea of going in to the HVAC field full time. I can find lots of job listings for experienced techs but none for apprentices. I keep hearing how students that get out of this course don't know anything and are incapable of doing repairs. I beg to differ. I fully understand this course and with a little hands on work I could really feel good about starting my own business.
I have several guys that are on speed dial that say just do my own repairs and if I get stuck, which I will, just call them and they will bail me out. WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO GET IN THIS BUSINESS? My ultimate goal would be to start my own business. I passed my EPA universal exam.
Thanks for your time, Rusty
